The Zhekar Choede Monastery is linked to the Gelugpa tradition,

His Holiness the Dalai Lama's one , called "the Yellow Hats"

Its history

In 1991, Ven. Chusang Rinpoche

accepted to become their Spiritual Head.

At present, about 30 monks

(young monks and adults) live there.

                      Several monks have found sponsors

               through the Lotus Association

This monastery was founded in 1400

in Western Tibet with about 70 monks.

Its tradition was broken in 1959

when the Chinese communists invaded Tibet.

About 30 monks escaped

and settled in Kalimpong, North India

as refugees where they rebuilt their monastery.

Only a few of them continued the tradition

 in very poor conditions.
